2023 SETBP1Strong Rides in the Million Dollar Bike Ride

SETBP1Strong Team Rides in Philly!!!

For the 5th year in a row, the SETBP1Strong Team participated in the Million Dollar Bike Ride in Philadelphia, PA on June 11th. Each year since 2020 unique challenges have impacted participation within the Million Dollar Bike Ride. For 2020 and 2021, the event was entirely virtual due to covid. On a positive note, moving virtually created space for participants to create their own local Million Dollar Bike Ride (MDBR) events and the opportunity to participate from anywhere in the world. For 2022, the event moved back to being an in-person event; however, participants could also continue to participate virtually if they were unable to attend in-person. Covid continued to impact participation and some riders on the SETBP1Strong Team were unable to participate in-person since they were sick. Four days before this year’s MDBR ride, smoke from fires in Canada blew in and caused the air quality within Philadelphia, PA to be at the worst levels in the world. Concern surfaced as to whether the Million Dollar Bike Ride would be cancelled due to the event being an outside biking event and unknowns as to what the air quality would be like on Saturday.

On Friday, the day before the bike ride, thankfully the air quality returned to normal levels. Yay, the announcement came that the 2023 Million Dollar Bike Ride would still take place. All cyclists, volunteers, and walkers who signed up to participate for the SETBP1Strong family were able to attend, except for one family who understandably made an early call due to respiratory concerns.

Saturday turned out to be a beautiful, breezy day and SETBP1Strong Team participants arrived bright and early to pick up bikes, check-in, and be ready for a team photo around 7:10am. Cyclists on the SETBP1Strong Team began their ride around 7:45am for the 32 mile ride and 7:50am for the 10 mile route while families with younger children had the option to participate in the one mile walk at 8:00am. Other participants opted to volunteer for the Million Dollar Bike Ride.
